Report a bug

Crashes, a level that won't load, a button that does nothing? Send it over. Three things make it far faster to fix, and they're all in one place: Settings → General → About on your phone, and the version number at the bottom of the game's own settings screen.

  • What happened, and what you were doing right before it.
  • Your device and its OS version (iOS, Android, Windows or macOS).
  • The app version.

A screenshot or screen recording is worth a lot here, especially for anything visual.

A purchase didn't go through

First try Restore Purchases in the game's settings. That re-checks your receipt with the store and is the fix in most cases. It has to be the same Apple ID or Google account you bought with.

If that doesn't work, email me and I'll sort it out. Refunds are handled by the store you bought from: Apple at reportaproblem.apple.com, Google at Google Play's refund page. I can't issue refunds myself, but tell me anyway so I can fix whatever caused it. The Steam version has no in-app purchases.

I lost my progress

Progress is saved on your device and backed up automatically: to your own iCloud on iPhone and iPad (so it follows your Apple ID), to Steam Cloud on Steam (so it follows your Steam account), and on Android through Google's own app backup when you move to a new phone with the same Google account. Reinstall the app, or open the game on a new device signed into the same account, and your progress comes back by itself — give it a few seconds on the main menu with an internet connection. Syncing only ever moves you forward: an old device with an old save can never roll a newer one back.

On iPhone, check the device is signed into iCloud under Settings → [your name] and that iCloud Drive is on. On Steam, check Steam Cloud is enabled for Sightline in the game's properties. On Android, the surest backup is a linked Yumloop account (below), which keeps a copy of your save whatever happens to the phone. And if progress vanished without any of the above, that is a bug and I want to hear about it.

Moving progress to another device or platform

Between devices of the same kind nothing needs doing: iPhones and iPads share progress through iCloud, and Steam machines (Windows, Mac and Steam Deck) share it through Steam Cloud and your Steam account.

To carry progress across kinds — say from an iPhone to an Android phone, or to a Steam Deck — link them once. On either device open Settings → Account → Link devices. It shows a short one-time code and a QR code. On the other device open the same screen and type the code (or, on a phone, tap Scan a code and point the camera at the QR). That's it: from then on both sides sync automatically, and always to whichever save is further along. Linking is part of Sightline+ on iPhone and Android, and included with the game on Steam.

Linking never quietly throws progress away, and a linked device can never drag a newer save backwards. If you'd rather not link at all you can delete the whole account from the same screen; see the privacy page for exactly what it holds. The older save code transfer has been retired: codes you already exported can still be imported for a while, but new ones aren't issued.

Steam and Steam Deck

The Steam version is the complete game, with no in-app purchases, on Windows, Mac and Steam Deck. Your save is backed up to Steam Cloud and follows your Steam account between machines. It supports mouse, keyboard and controllers, and plays fully on Steam Deck without a touchscreen: the d-pad or left stick moves a tile highlight, A reveals, X flags, B goes back, Y opens the Glossary, the triggers zoom the board and the left stick pans it. Every control can be changed under Settings → Controls, which also lists the keyboard shortcuts. Friends and leaderboards use your Steam friends list, and your save is backed up to Steam Cloud.

Android

The Android version is the same game as the iPhone one: the Daily and the first 40 levels are free, and Sightline+ unlocks the rest as a single purchase through Google Play. Leaderboards, friends and achievements run on Google Play Games; the game offers the sign-in itself the first time it needs it. Signing in is optional and everything is playable without it. Reminders are ordinary notifications, and can be switched off in the game's settings or in your phone's notification settings.

I'm stuck on a puzzle

Every puzzle in a Yumloop game is solvable by deduction alone. You never have to guess, and if a board seems to require guessing, that's a bug worth reporting. Send me the level number and I'll either walk you through the next step or fix the level.

Leaderboards, friends and achievements

On iPhone and iPad, leaderboards, friends and achievements run on Apple's Game Center; on Android they run on Google Play Games; on Steam they run on Steam. They're available to every player — nothing social sits behind a purchase. Everyone in the world gets the same Daily Sightline, and the Daily leaderboard is shared across all three, so you can compare times with friends whatever they play on: add each other with the friend code under Settings → Account, and set the display name shown next to your time there too. If yours aren't showing, check you're signed in under Settings → Game Center, and for friends' times, allow the game to connect with friends when iOS asks. Signing in is optional. Everything in the game is playable without it.

Accessibility and customisation

Sightline never relies on colour alone — every mechanic has its own shape. On top of that, the game's settings include colour blind presets for deuteranopia, protanopia and tritanopia, and a Custom colours editor that hands you a dial for every recolourable element: bombs, flags, the sightline itself, portals, arrows, and each number from 1 to 5.

There's also dark mode, a Vibrant mode that gives every level a bold colour instead of a pale one, and a reduced motion switch that calms the animations. If something about the game is hard to see or hard to reach, tell me — accessibility reports go to the top of the list.

Music, sound and haptics

Each has its own switch and volume in the game's settings, and they're independent: turning the music off leaves the sound effects playing, and turning sounds off leaves the music alone. The game also steps aside automatically if you're listening to your own music or a podcast.

Feedback and ideas

Not everything is a problem. If something felt good, felt off, or you have an idea that would make a game better, that's the message I most want to get.
